OP you can place plastic wrap on the top cap and console. I am talking about Glad wrap or some other type of wrap you can buy from a grocery store.

I don't tow with a cover. I carry one and put it on when I get there. If you're going to tow with one I'd use something like this.

I have an Aurora cover. It has non-scratch lining on the sections where it touches the glas. I tow w/ it routinely. No issues.

I have that same cover and don't have issues but that cover was not cheap. Well worth the money I spent. The stretch wrap from Home Depot well protect the top cap and console.
