Trailer back up light

My port side trailer backup light went out last week. I assumed it was the LED light! I ordered a new one plug
it up and nothing! Check the voltage and continuity they are perfect all the way back to the plug! The new and old LED lights work on the starboard side of the trailer. I cleaned and checked the ground wire for the light still no backup light on port side! Any suggestions??

Yea, did continuity test on both sides. Circuit good to the truck. Plugged "bad " light into working side, it lit up, so light is good. Mike cleaned the ground. I am baffled, only guess is a bad plug, though it worked doing continuity test. Those are all the easy things to check. Still scratching my head where the problem is.

When you say continuity did you check to see if it had power to that light when your tow vehicle is in reverse or just to see if a wire was broke ?

Just checked to see if the wire was broke. Probably should check with power, that may be the answer. Thanks

Check your fuses on the tow vehicle.

I would definitely check the voltage where the light plugs in... OR id ohm out the wire to the ground circuit/trailer... the wire may be "in tact" so it will buzz out good, but if there is some broken insulation somewhere it may be grounding itself out.

When they wired my trailer they needed to have power for the brake solenoid so you guessed it they tied into my left backup light! The solenoid shorted out and killed the backup light! We cut out the wire to the solenoid and joined the wires together for the backup light and I now have two working lights!
Now I have to replace the brake solenoid!
