This apparently had nothing to do with the navigation lock. The fishermen must have been caught in the tail race of the generators. This is the chamber in the power house which is at water level just above the generator discharge. These chambers are very popular fishing spots and I have seen small boats in them.

you're correct nauticman. the locks didn't really have anything to do with it, the news didn't quite get all their facts straight.... shocker!

They could have also been in the area of the trash gate which is located between the power house and the wing wall. The water in there is still when this gate is closed, but navigating in and out of there can be dangerous especially with a small boat, because of the turbulence and strong current caused by the generator discharge washing against the wing wall.

See it just about every week. Seems mostly people with really small boats and small engines. Doesn't seem very safe to me.

This is exactly the reason why the pandemic isnt going down soon. People dont want to follow health rules and regulations and when something bad finally happens to them its too late for them to go back and they have to rely on other people to save them.
