Help- Humminbird not reading depth correctly

I’ve got a Helix 12 and it recently started reading all depths under 20ish feet incorrectly. Over 20 feet, the sonar and depth readings looks right. Under 20 feet on the sonar, the actual depth looks like a temperature line and it appears there’s a hard bottom ithays another 10-15 feet below it and that is the depth it’s reading. Side and down imagine are fine. Anyone have any ideas on what may be causing this?

Not sure why you are having issue...but make sure you have upgraded to latest software version. Fixed my 9 earlier this year. Using the app and Bluetooth connection is easiest way to upgrade.

update the software, if that doesnt fix it and its a "new" problem on an older unit i would check the transducer

One of the software versions gave me the double bottom when over Rocky or hard bottom and I had to dial the sensitivity back and turn up the noise filter to clear it out.
I've updated 3 or 4 times since then and its been gone ever since.
3 things I'd try if noise filter and sensitivity adjustments don't fix it. First is if you're not running the latest software go ahead and update. If you are and it just randomly started, restore defaults and see what it does. If that doesn't clear it up, check your transducer angle.
If it's shifted or at a slight angle you could be getting a bounce back off the hull of the boat causing that false double bottom.

Thank you all for the help. My software hasn’t been updated in awhile and I didn’t even think about that, I’ll start there.

One more comment...Humminbird customers service was very helpful and pleasant to deal with. She was an extremely knowledgeable and called me back to make sure my issue was resolved.
