New Trim Problems

Hi Guys,

I had posted a few weeks ago inquiring about a voltage drop i am getting when I am on plane and try to trim up or down.

Was on the water Friday and ran into a new issue. Someone had dropped and anchor and lucky me i found the rope with the prop.

When i trimmed up to clear the rope, the motor would not go down. I was stuck in full upright position. I was able to get to shore and manually release it to lower. Trim still would not work.

Got the boat on the trailer, and when loading up to drive, the trim suddenly works again. This happened one other time where the buttons wouldn't work, but came back like 30 minutes later and it was fine.

I can't help but think the two must somehow be related.

Any advice is helpful, I have never worked on the trim motor and have no idea where to start to solve this problem.

Thanks!

Had my battery tested, another junk battery. Number 3 for this year. Starting to think something in my system is causing this. This time I upgraded to an AGM. Maybe that will help. Still not sure why trim up would work and not trim down unless it is a trim motor problem as Catch1 suggested.

If you're not starting your day with a fully charged battery, your engine probably won't be able keep your battery at an adequately charged state. There are 2 relays on your engine that control trim functions - 1 ea. for "up" and "down". You could locate and change them. They are fairly inexpensive, for a boat part. If it won't trim up OR down, I'm with Catch1. Tapping on the trim motor may get it going for a while, but the fix will be to rebuild or replace the trim motor.

Agree. Change relays or swap relays to see if the problem moves.
