Does anyone use this technique or does it only work in the spring?

Thanks,

i have used it during late fall early winter when the water temp is low 50's to upper 40's. 4-6 poles and weighted with 1/16 to 1/8 ounce lead heads with various colors of grubs or crappie baits to help determine what color they are biting and depth. just scan for fish on your electronics to determine location and then begin fishing. be sure to know your water this time of the year because it can go from 10 feet to 3 feet really quick on the reservoir side.

SOMETIMES I'll start exploring in January with some decent results (longline trolling). I remember catching a 2-man limit of crappie trolling on New Years Day once. But usually it is February before I start catching any decent numbers. But it is really highly variable. It never hurts to explore. Just an hour or two can often give you a good idea if it's going to pay off or not.
