Motor selection help

Hey guys - need some help here. I have a Lowe 175 stinger that I truly enjoy to fish out of. I've considered trading I. For a 18' glass boat for more speed but honestly the deck area on my stinger is larger than any glass boat deck I've seen. Storing the boat in the garage is very important to me, so an upgrade to anything over 18' is currently off the table. The stinger is rated for a 75hp. Currently I have a 60hp and have a top speed of 32 at 6K RPM. I've thought to upgrading to a 75 but seems like a lot of money for a few MPH. What do you motor experts thing of putting a 90HP on her? Too much motor? I think I could see the mid 40's at that hp. Please give your thoughts. I may be looking to do some motor changing in the next month.

i wouldn't over power the boat if the sticker says 75 hp and you put a 90 on it and mr green jeans checks you it could be a ticket seen it happen before in bama where i grew up at.

Also you may have an issue with insuring the boat if the motor exceeds the max HP rating on the hull. I see 2 big risks already just to get from 32 MPH to 40 something. Doesn't sound worth it but its your boat.

You wont get a ticket in TN for that, but the insurance is certainly a concenr. It will be higher at the companies that will insure it.

Best not to exceed the hp rating. I have heard of people putting max on the beefing it up.

I am not sure what your hull looks like, but if it doesn't have a pad at the rear of the hull, you won't see as big of a speed increase by the repower as you might think. If your boat is flat at the back of the hull, it has a lot of drag and resistance. I know someone with a G3 boat that has a 200 hp Mercury on it. It isn't fast and it drinks the gas at wide open throttle. Horsepower will affect the speed but the big thing is the hull and weight of the boat. Hope this makes sense.
