BPS E-Z Lure Retriever

Just a plug for the BPS E-Z Lure Retriever. Plug - get it ? Anyway...it's 3 for 3 this year as far as crankbait retrieval for me. I'm sure that percentage will go down and I've been lucky my hang-ups have been in fairly shallow water. I just give 3-4 yanks with the retriever the same time I keep tension on the line with my rod in my other hand and so far...so good. It has a second feature of small chains to grab the hooks but they haven't come into play yet. I know most fishermen are familiar with these including telescopic pole lure retriever and knockers and just small knockers such as the "Hound Dog". All have pros and cons in different situations. Of course a pole knocker might get some lures I've launched into pine trees over the years. I just can't believe I didn't get one until this year especially since I use crankbaits a lot. They can also be used for swimbaits...spinnerbaits...and even live bait.

As far as the BPS retriever I would advise paying around $4.00 extra dollars for the one that comes with a spool. The 30 feet of line can tangle easy on the boat. The line on it isn't great either and I know some people remove it and put a stronger line on it. If you buy one without a spool a good idea is to use a very small fish marker buoy and tie it to the end of the line. Just spool it up and down that way and have the benefit of getting the retriever back if you were to drop it since you're working over the water. The weight that is painted like a fish is a heavy chunk and would sink fast.

I spend too much money on fishing lures and equipment and kick myself later for buying stuff that gets buried away in my tackle box and seldom used. This is the best investment I've made in awhile. It's already paid for itself. If you're fishing Lucky Craft or other expensive lures these retrievers and knockers are a "must have". I had these good results just yesterday...

Those things are awesome!! I cant count how many dollars I have saved with mine. Jigs, cranks and even a couple A- rigs.

I got it stuck once and then had to cut it off. I tied the string to a tree. Bought another and was able to retrieve my lure retriever as well as the crank I was originally trying to get. Now I've got a spare too!!

Ive always thought about getting one, but just never pulled the trigger. I guess I dont fish enough crank baits to worry about it.

You might could save a natural swimbait though. emoPoke I forgot the "Hound Dog" is actually a retriever but here's a BIG UGLY "knocker" type that I bought for $1.50 on ebay. I haven't had a chance to use it yet.

I love any of the big lead style ones, with or without chains. A guy in Rockwood makes some good ones that the guys on BBC rave about. I saved a Spro lipless bait yesterday with my hound dog! Oh and I keep mine on an old bait caster and rod I cut off down to the last eye.

What about a 1-1/2 oz casting sinker with a snap swivel to hook on the line. Let it slide down to the hung up lure and jig it up and down a few times and bingo... lure pops free.

I'm 0-2 with mine. Lost a jig and crank. My dad has had this blue steel bar type for 20 years and it works 90 percent of the time. Thing has saved thousands of dollars. I'm gonna have to try to find one like it!
