I have had my tail handed to me plenty by guys out of a flat bottom.I would tell my fishing buddy to loan me 30,000 grand to buy a new rig

A smaller boat causes you to fish more other than running around everywhere. I have caught several bags of fish that would compete in most any tournament out of a 16ft flat bottom

You can't catch them running 70 mph down the lake, and the fish dont have a clue what your in.It's the person in the boat working the bait that catches them.

If the boat runs and the livewell works that's all you need. The boat is just a tool and doesn't need to be fancy and fast to do the job

I tell you what. We will start our night tournaments in a few weeks as soon as the water comes up. You are welcome to fish ours anytime as long as you have a livewell. Does not matter to me what you run. Its all about preference anyway and if you want to spend 80k or 2k you will be welcomed in our tourn.

Your buddy made an error . It is the fisherman, not the boat that catches the fish. You just can't run as far to unproductive areas as some folks can. Cff has folks with big , fast rigs, and some of us with much slower ones. We all have a ball !

I think your buddy was pulling your leg. If not tell him to buzz off.

Run what you brung :) Like others have said, it's the man in the boat, not the boat itself. I love my little 16' center console skiff. Though some locking rod storage would be nice.

Your buddy may just be scared to get beat by a guy in a flat bottom boat man lol I see no problem with it

what he said......your "buddy" probably thinks you're at an unfair advantage....being able to fish waters that he can't....then again.....he may be worried that you'll get in big waters and thus finding yourself in a serious situation.....might want to clarify.....

I can tell you first hand, in this case size don't matter. Neither does speed the only time I have to make boat payments out of pocket is during the winter months when I'm not fishing dog fights and tournaments.

Your good to go!!! If you have a boat that works, a kill switch that works, a live well that works and life jackets worn during the tournament while the big motor (little motor, lol) is running. You have everything you need to fish the tournaments around here. I use to fish a tournament circuit that offered an extra $2,000.00 if you had a Suzuki motor. I had a big boat with a Johnson at the time. In a big bass tournament I won a boat. It was a small 15.5 footer aluminum boat with a 25 horse power Johnson on the back. I traded that motor in on a 25 HP Suzuki. I fished a lot of tournaments out of that little boat while fishing the Suzuki sponsored events. I would line my little rig right there next to the big rigs and never skip a beat. There were several others with small rigs also that had Suzuki engines also doing the same thing. I bet I won 10K out of that little boat over the next few years in those tournaments by having that engine. emoThumbsup It is not the size of your motor that matters as much as the meeting the requirements to fish in them. We used to get beat to death years ago at Carters Lake dog fights by a little old man (I am now) in a 14' bass tracker with a 25hp motor. Every week he took our money while we flew all over the lake hunting for fish.... He would bring fish to weigh in that were bigger than anything I had ever seen caught at Carters... I know I saw him with a dozen 7-8lb LM over the years.

Hey Guys! Do you mind? My wife might read this thread.

LOL!!! I hear you Steve, I don't want my wife to know this either.

The truth is, lots of tournaments have been won out of smaller boats. I once finished 3rd at a Watts Bar tournament where the big motor wouldn't start and we were forced to fish with the trolling motor. It's like Bassbug said, it encourages you to fish more than just run all over the lake.

Yep, well not too big. I had a Champion Bass Boat 18 footer with a 150 Johnson Faststrike on it. But I choose the little boat over it to fish the Suzuki tournaments. If you had a Suzuki motor they gave an extra $1,000.00 for first and an extra $250.00 for second, third, forth and fifth. That was back in the 90s so that was some good extra money for those tournaments. emoThumbsup Jmax
