Can the chic handle it?

Only been fishing the chic 2yrs. Don't get there much, I live in Scott co. 100 mile drive. Last two times I've been there, mid week both times it looked like Guntersville on a weekend. Out of state tags everywhere! Do you think the chic can handle the pressure, it's small compared to a lot of other major bass lakes. I finally kinda figured a few things out on this lake, now I can't even get in my holes!!

Dude, this year has been especially packed it is getting out of control, and to answer your question....yes it has to affect it to an extent.

Heck yeah it has to affect it. I don't think it matters if the lake can handle it. The way fishing is getting more popular and all the publicity this lake has gotten, It looks like the pressure is here for a while. There are still days when it's not as crowded, just not as many!

I agree with this... I took last Friday off to go fishing and you would have thought it was a Saturday and every fish had a 100 dollar bill in its mouth. I was shocked at how many were out on a work day. To me the fishing is tough right now... I don't know the lake that well but it seems though to me. I did better at Pickwick a couple of weeks ago than I have done at the Chick the last few times out.

Maybe if we start talking about how great Pickwick is all these new visitors will head over there.

One other thought on this topic... Which parts of the lake get the most pressure? Before I bought a bass boat.. (this year) I fished from a Kayak. That pretty much meant my day was confined to a slough or small bay... Most of the time I was up near the power plant. So for 4 to 6 hours I would see one boat after another come in and hit the exact same spot then move on... as soon as one was gone here come another... same cast into the same spot and off again. Usually it was an underwater hump. I had to paddle out and find it with my depth finder :)

Since I got a boat I have tried to fish a different area each time I go out. Believe it or not the area near the dam has been the most productive with my best fish in years coming from less than 100 yards from the ramp down there. But I don't see anywhere near as many fishing on the lower end as the middle... I am calling the Harrison bay to the power plant middle.... I haven't went up much further than the power plant so I have no idea how many boats are up there.

Just wonder what did others think about which areas get the most pressure.

Does the area above Hiawassee get as much pressure?

There is lot more pressure but half of the outsiders can't catch anything here to start with. Talked to too many of them at different area ramps and they simply don't know how to fish the Chick. They read about it on the internet or magazine and just assumed they could come here and catch huge bass without knowing how. They found out it doesn't work that way.

My thoughts exactly. ;) Jmax

It has changed a lot on chickamauga I quit fishing it 7 yrs ago and just started back this year I used to catch fish every time we went . Not huge fish but a lot of 2 to 2.5 pound fish and 90 percent were on bandit 200 crankbaits . Now every hole I fished is covered from every angle possible multiple times a day I have been fishing for 2 months now and have caught 1 small fish on a bandit . I have been in sloughs that 7 years ago you would have it all day to yourself and now there is 8 to 10 boats in them and 5 more waiting to get in them . The pressure has affected it a lot or I just suck at fishing now.

Pickwick is a great lake but there is no councefishingfoum.com so not people can find out

This forum has very little to do with it, FLW and other major TX's showing off GIANT bags of fish is what has caused this.

I disagree. You look at all of the inquiries about where to camp, fish, eat, put in, etc. If I want to travel somewhere to fish, I google __________ fishing. When you do that for Chick, what pops up?

The pressure HAS greatly affected the bite in my opinion.

Someone said it once on here before after a trip or two spending 300 to 800 on a fishing trip and not catching anything it will start slowing down . I personally know that chick is not a pull up and catch fish lake it is going to take me at least a year to figure out some patterns and holes to fish cause the the patterns and holes I fished 7 years ago aren't working now and I spent 8 years and many hours on the lake to figure them out .

There are no fish in the lake except for a few bluegill. You are better off staying home and fishing the lake at the park.

I agree with churly internet makes a huge difference in the amount of pressure a lake gets. They may see it on TV but to get the skinny on what is going on they go to the internet and what local folks are saying. The CFF is a great place to be and I really enjoy reading about other guys days and how there day went with different patterns a techniques compared to my own and not just the fishing reports there are all kinds of other helpful and funny things that go on here. I know a few of the guys on here and would like to meet several more. Unfortunately it is the price of doing business, you advertise you get customers. All I will say is if you are an out of towner and you come to the Chic wanting a 10 plus fish you better bring your A game because the Chic has big teeth and she likes to bite more than the fish do!!!

Just wait until they start killing all the grass on Guntersville. Then the Chick is really going to take a beating. I hope I'm wrong but I don't see it ending well for Chick either. Especially if they decide to continue north killing grass here too.
