(76.123.126.105) | I went fishing below the Chickamauga Dam a few weeks back. I'm fairly amateur at fishing, but have spent hundreds already in my new found hobby. While fishing there I was using a 1oz bank sinker, but the current was so strong it took my line down the river... it was very frustrating...
What size and types of sinkers do you suggest that I should be using? |

(174.252.158.160) | Depends on the current and line size. I throw 65lb braid with a 20 mono leader and 2 to 4 ounces of weight |

Location: Chattanooga, TN (74.221.189.82) | That type fishing in the current will not work at all if you are fishing from the sidewalk area of the Tee dock.. The ONLY place you can cast a sinker and expect anything is to crowd in on the small wing wall at the Pipe rail and cast into the Boils. Even then it will wash out and take you down the river.. With the one oz you are limited to about twenty feet out and short of the first Turbine (assuming the Turbines are operating) ... If you have a rod similar to a surf fishing rod that will cast a 3 oz to 6 oz sinker. you will be able to fish the rail on the wing wall.
The water at the Dam is about forty feet at the rail but approximately 6 - 8' in the current. As I said, it is next to impossible to fish across current. The water will hang you 99% of every cast. Fish somewhere else or try a totally different approach in the tail-waters. ----- "We are in desperate need of New Drivers for the Original Software Operating System we call the Constitution." |
