I plan on fishing the River Park area, up around the dam, for the first time next week. On my Navionics map, I can see such things as "Restricted area sign" "No boat buoy" "Danger keep away sign." Are there any dangers/restriction concerning boating around the dam that are not obvious to even the casual observer? Am I required to wear a life jacket within so many feet of the dam? Any other regulations that only apply to operating below the dam? Thanks in advance for the help.

Other than hitting the dam there is only one rock pile on the Lock side of the river It is slightly above mid way between the Dam and the railroad bridge and approximately Fifty yards from the steel Construction walls. There is a very shallow, hard to detect rock pile at the First railroad support from the rip-rap on the Lock side. I am pretty sure it is blocked . Just stay in the middle sections of the supports under the railroad bridge. All the boats stay out areas are gone. Always TVA restricts boats from being stationary too long and fishing in front of the actual locks. If the water is normal, you can see the rock pile I mentioned above the water-line. Oh yes One more.. the holes nearer to the rail on the right side of the dam belongs to Buster and the fishermen who fish from that wall there. They will cast to the second boil for catfish. They do not have boats therefore they are very restricted as to where that can fish... So, we generally respect them and avoid the right side within casting range of them.

TWRA will ticket you for not wearing a PFD above the railroad bridge.  In my opinion, It's not too smart to not wear a PFD anywhere below the dam, especially when the current is running and more especially when you are fishing alone.  If you fall out, you could get separated from the boat very quickly.

. What MB said. The man will watch you from the parking lot....then present you with a surprise. It is for your own safety. I don't know many folks who could swim in the boils. Besides, when you first fall in, chances are, all of Busters lost tackle, would probaly snag you, and keep you under.

Good advice, thanks. I hadn't thought about fishing in current and getting separated from the boat.

What you talkin' about...  I thought Buster was the Mayor of that rail. He thinks he owns it.
