(98.68.194.97) | Hey, its been a week or two...
I want to go hit the tailwaters from the wall or sidewalk (below pier in slack water). I have killed the white bass on 1/16oz jigs and BGs.
Is anything else biting in there? I want to catch something new.
Please share from your recent experience.

If it is not too crowded freeline a live minnow along the submerged wall where it extends out from the steel rail at the wingwall ----- "We are in desperate need of New Drivers for the Original Software Operating System we call the Constitution." |

Use My special rig and go down just past the railroad bridge and fish the gravel bar for big walleye and spots.

(96.4.63.20) | Thanks Liveliner! I think we may have spoken in person a while back.
Your "Special Rig" sounds intriguing.
A lively minnow with a splitshot up the line a bit sounds like the thing to try. |

Location: Chattanooga, TN (74.221.189.82) | The splitshot is on a free line from a barrel swivel and bead sliding above the hook tied direct to the mainline. the minnow swims without any restrictions. Almost like free line bait fishing.

Absolutely NO !!! That is the very rig there that I designed my rig to get away from/ You will see in your diagram that the sinker is on your main line and the line is restricted of most all it's free travel. Plus you have three(3) Knots in your main line to trust. ... I posted a clarification in another thread. Look for it. Somewhere I have a diagram. If I can find it I will post it. You will not find this diagram anywhere else because I thought this one up. ----- "We are in desperate need of New Drivers for the Original Software Operating System we call the Constitution." |

(166.248.66.10) | Wonder where a man could catch some trophy catfish around the dam??? (I am taking a friend that really doesn't need the addes confusion of being around the turbines, and will be fishing from the bank.) I have had some luck under the blue bridge, on the other side of the river from the boat ramp. I have to park in a "secret" place, and walk through the woods to get under the bridge. Anyway, any advice is welcome. |

(96.5.63.21) | I can see the genius quality of it. The bead keeps the swivel from slipping onto the hook. Once cast, there would be very little chance of a tangle. If the sinker's line breaks, (probable), it would be easily retied onto the swivel. Genius.
I want to be fishing it with a healthy minnow RIGHT NOW! |

If you will understand the instruction examples the hook is far from the swivel and bead while being fished until you are ready to retrieve the rig. That is except for bottom fishing. Even in that the sinker is on the bottom and as you give slack your bait moves away. On the retrieve the sinker weight pulling the swivel down and into the Bead is the feature intended to kick the hook out 90 degrees. It will not tangle on the retrieve. Tie one up there in your den and play with it and actually shake it around when slack lined. then lift the rig and watch how it will seldom if ever tangles. ----- "We are in desperate need of New Drivers for the Original Software Operating System we call the Constitution." |

(184.174.142.254) | so liveliner: do you only use live minnows or shad with this or ever use artificials like a Crig, because thats what this reminds me of is a cross between a Crig and a trout rig for topwater fishing |

Location: Chattanooga, TN (74.221.189.82) | Lightweight floating Crankbaits over humps and rock piles. Toss out the rig and free line until your sinker sets on the bottom You have that "V" I mentioned. As you retrieve, your artificial slowly dives down into the waiting fish suspended. give slack and it will float back up for a second run at the same spot. Curly-tailed grubs and plastics on a bare hook without a weighted head can be twitched down until you feel the bait hit the swivel. Then crank it up and toss it again. I have yet to find an artificial that will pull away like live minnows do... But I use them.
I kill spots with this rig below the Chick using an imitation shad on a lightweight hook (No weight at the bait). Near the wing walls and over that row of rocks and along the rip-rap. Since I am mostly catch and release and the fact that the minnows are abundant I choose to use them.. Those big minnows swim up and pull against me. My most favorite way to use the rig up here is with a big split-shot pinched onto the end of the sinker drop. And fishing 4" yellowtails down the deep rocky banks at the Riverpark. If the sinker hangs it will pull off. I did not lose anything else. Pinch on another split-shot and continue.
Just give it a try. I promise you that the sensitivity of the fish mouthing your bait will greatly increase. It changes fishing from up to the boat to down to the waiting fish at your own pace.
I wish I was trying to sell this idea. LOL

Location: Chattanooga, TN (184.174.145.204) | I tried your free-line rig yesterday below the dam and it works great! I was trying to find a few smallmouth and ended up with a number of nice cats. Do you drift this rig below the turbines?
Thanks,
Jim |
