Location: Chattanooga, Tn (174.252.146.183) | OK I am starting to get frustrated. I just started bass fishing last year and I feel I have learned as much as I can on my own. I am looking for a mentor I would pay to take me out and show me what I'm missing. How to locate the fish and how best to fish them.
We would use my boat and gas. I have a triton tr-18. We can discuss price per trip. Please let me know! I really feel like I have stagnated and need the help!

And don't be afraid to ask folks on the forum to ride with you (or you with them) and teach you some of what they know. We have a bunch of fine folks here who will help. -----

(68.169.159.12) | Man i have learned allot just from hanging around tournaments, while not everyone is nice and honest about how, where, and when they caught the bass. Allot of them love helping you out! I mean if i felt confident in teaching you i'd do it just for the ride, but like others have said allot of people on here would help you out for no charge at all! |

(68.59.222.68) | Ott Defoe Guide service. Ott will take you out for a day and teach you any aspect you want. I think that it cost around 300 for a full day, and you can take someone with you to split the cost. This is second hand info that I read on another site. But you can contact him on his website. |

(98.68.140.51) | Im not saying it would be a bad idea to use a guide, but I have felt the same way you are right now.
For starters, try going back to the basics.
I dont mean worm and float, just start back with what you are confident with. Places you have fished since you were young, baits that never fail you, best time of day for most likely feeding, ect.
I often find, by so called getting my bearings back I beguin to improve my skills. I am then able to relate where and what I am doing relating to other bodys of water, baits, tempatures and times.
Early spring is typically when I have these issues also. I hope this helped give you some ideas, and hang in there,,, you wont be able to beat them off your hook before long! |

A more expensive option would be to fish some BFL or B.A.S.S. Weekend Series events. I've done all three and learned more in a few years than I did in the previous 30. -----

Location: Hooterville or Ooltewah (98.249.113.120) | Justin, a year, just a year!? Are you kidd'in me? Are you serious? I've been chasseing those elusive Bass for more than 40 years and I'm still at a loss the majority of the time. That's what makes it challenging, fun and keeps me going back for another lesson. If you caught a boat load every time, you would probably get tired of it and quit. You need to just slow down and spend more time on the water, that's all! See 'ya out there! ----- ...what would you do if you met God today? "Probably take him fishing!" Denny Crane |

Location: Rossville, GA (74.221.188.187) | I agree with Pointer, joining a bass club will give you the "most bang for your buck".
This allows you to fish with many different people.
Example: If you fish . . . say a plastic worm with 5 different people. If you pay attention,
you will learn something different about fishing a worm from every one of them.
IMO, The quickest way to learn is to fish with as many different people as you can. |

Location: Kingston (Thief Neck Island/ Watts Bar) (98.70.100.37) | Would love to go fishing in my boat or your boat. I would also second the comment about being a non boater in a club or spend a hundred per tourney on the weekend series as a non boater. Although somewhat of a crap shoot, it worked wonders for me. I didn't fish for my last 13 years in the military and the weekend series not only lit the fire again, I learned first hand about different lures and techniques and made some great friends. |

(67.142.162.24) | I don't know what you have learned in a year, but when I was able to learn form someone else that was great, but when I was fishing by myself, lets say throwing a jig, I'd read as much info and/or watch a few dvd's, when I went out by myself, I'd only take my jig box, this forced me to do just that, learn to fish a jig. "Now" I love throwing a jig, they catch fish, big fish at that. My 2 cents.

Location: Ooltewah, TN (173.247.2.54) | Justin, that is the main reason I am fishing the BASS weekend series this year as a co. Different lakes, a different boater each time, etc. I have already decided to go to the BFLs next year as a co as well. After at least 2 years as a back seater in bigger tournaments with different lake and different angler each time, I may be able to win Jmax's legend tournament in the future! (looking forward to them Jim) |

Location: Charleston TN (50.55.166.120) | I about stopped fishing altogether a few years ago. I couldn't catch a keeper with a stick of dynamite. I finally let my ego get in the backseat and booked a trip with Rogne Brown. Oh Lord...........was I impressed. I caught more fish that day than I had in the past year combined. I hired Rogne several more times to show me how to fish. Rogne taught me how to read a graph. How to understand how retrieve speeds were important. Where to look for fish. How to catch bigger fish.
I actually started to catch fish during tournaments and even won a few. Rogne changed the way I fished and it payed it off. |
