Shimano stradic 1100 or 2500, cost a little more but well worth it!!!

I agree with Sauger a 2500 Shimano Stradic would be perfect.

I had too many shimano spinning reels to develop binding problems, including stradics. Customer service was horrible.

I would go with Pfluegar Supreme (8030 or 8035 sizes) or Diawa Tierra or Sol (2000).

I own onw and only one spinning reel, don't want another one. But, it is a stradic mg and I absolutely love it! Reeled in a 6.5 punder on 8# test out from under a dock in a tourny at weiss last year! Reel handled it very well! I have also heard many good things about the diawa spinning reels!

the sahara is a little cheaper than the stradic and in my opnion handle about as good. just set your drag right. the drag is the only real difference and as long as your not using 4lb line, to me, it doesn't matter. I have caught several 5-6 pounders on the saharas with 8 lb line and never had a single problem.

Read the specs on the stradic and symetre. Pretty much identical but a totally different price. Personally I like the saros because the spool is developed specifically for fluorocarbon.

There is a reel between the Stradic and Sahara, Called the Symetre. It is awesome. I own these and the Sahara and both are good.

If you don't want to spend much money, check out the Pflueger president.

i have 6 of the Pflueger presidents in various sizes and LOVE them. i have wrangled in a 10lb carp and a 12lb channel cat
on a 3035 size on a FA dock shooting crappie rod with no damage to either. (LOTS of fun though ).

plus customer service at pflueger is top notch.
had a bail return spring break in one of 'em. spent about 10 min before i talked to someone. while we talked about what was wrong she emailed me a parts schematic to make sure we were talking about the right part and then sent me spring kits for ALL my presidents.

I've got 2 Stradics and 1 Symetre and love both of them. All three are very smooth and have great drag. The Symetre only came with one spool and it's like pulling teeth to get a spare. Thats the only negitive i have with it.

Shimano Stradic or Saros. I have used the Stradic for 3 yrs. no problems at all. Good smooth drag, a must for big fish. I have a couple of Quantum Catalyst that seemed good at first but have developed problems after time. I have had the Pflueger President a good reel but it is not in the same class.

I use the Quantum Energy PT. I Haven't tried the Shimmano but I'm sure they are good. I usally flip the break off mine when I have a big fish on but the drag on the Energy works fine.
